Edwardian Conservatories

Alongside lean to conservatories and Victorian conservatories we also supply and install Edwardian conservatories in Bridlington.

Simplistic and fresh design

The Edwardian conservatory is so-called as it mirrors the design qualities enjoyed by the Edwardians. This style of design dates back to the early part of the 20th century. If you take a look at the style of houses from around the Edwardian era, they all carry the same essential look, with simple features and straight clean lines. This was mainly as a result of a break away from the old Victorian era of ornate and intricate design.

The focus of this style is lightness and airiness, with more subdued lines and ornamentation.

The Edwardian conservatory is basically a square or rectangular shape, making best use of the space available. It aims to maximise the view of the exteriors of the house with large glazed areas.

The square/rectanguler shape and the flat glass front are the two main characteristics of the Edwardian conservatory that most distinguish it from the Victorian conservatory.

Victorian conservatories quite often have ornamental panels on the glass. The Victorian styles also have three to five facets making up the front, compared to the flat front of the Edwardian Conservatory.

However, just like the Victorian style, the Edwardian conservatory also has a pitched roof with an apex. On the apex of the roof, typically an ornate ridge can be found

The Benefits of the Edwardian Conservatory

  • The classic Edwardian look can enhance the original features of an Edwardian era property. Gives a simple 'clean' look with straight lines and simple shape.
  • Maximises use of internal floor area of the conservatory.
  • Can have a double hipped roof if any height restrictions are at the property where the conservatory is to be sited, such as on a bungalow.
  • Can project out into larger gardens (particularly if the garden is long and narrow) giving a greater conservatory space if desired.
  • Saving cam be made thanks to the less complex roof design when compared to a Victorian conservatory.

Edwardian conservatories: tailor-made for your home

Our Edwardian conservatories are created from bespoke designs using our Computer Aided Design software, to meet your exact requirements. You can also add that special personal touch with a wide range of glass options and special features.

All our Edwardian conservatories come with 35 mm polycarbonate roofing as standard, but can be upgraded to glass, including the Active self-cleaning option.

Options for an Edwardian Conservatory

If you are worried that your Edwardian conservatory may lack individuality, you can include a wide range of options with which to stamp your own personality into the style of your new conservatory.

You can choose between having a dwarf wall or full glass panels. Dwarf walls can offer a bit more privacy and stability for your conservatory. A full-glass conservatory, on the other hand, gives you the full advantage of the light and the scenery available to you when you use the room. You can even just have dwarf walls to the sides, and full height glass to the front, overlooking the garden.

You can break from Edwardian tradition with leaded or bevelled glass, which can give your conservatory that special look, and samples are available in our showroom.

When to Consider Other Styles

Your Edwardian conservatory should be proportionate to the size of your house - long narrow designs look well - and is suited to most proprieties, especially these from the Edwardian era. If you have a sizable area available, you should maybe consider combination styles that would suite the space more efficiently.
